CIIN Unveils Youth Mentorship Program to Develop Next Generation of Insurance Professionals

Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), in partnership with Nathan Leadgate, has launched its Revamped Youth Mentorship Programme, an initiative designed to equip young and emerging insurance professionals with the guidance, knowledge and professional exposure required to build successful careers in the insurance industry.

The virtual launch, held on Friday, October 9, 2026, forms part of the Institute’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent, strengthening professional development and preparing the next generation of leaders for the evolving demands of the Nigerian insurance industry.

Speaking at the launch, CIIN President/Chairman of Council, Mr. Akinjide Orimolade, FIIN, described the programme as a deliberate investment in the future of the profession and the young people who will shape its growth in the years ahead.

He noted that the insurance industry continues to evolve in response to technological advancements, regulatory developments, changing customer expectations and new business models. According to him, succeeding in this environment requires more than technical knowledge; it also demands leadership, adaptability, ethical judgment, emotional intelligence and practical industry experience.

“Mentorship provides an opportunity for knowledge to be transferred from one generation of professionals to another. It enables young professionals to learn not only from formal training but also from the experiences, successes, challenges and lessons of those who have travelled the path before them,” he stated.

Mr. Orimolade emphasised that the programme would provide a structured platform for experienced professionals to guide and encourage emerging talents while helping mentees develop the confidence, competence and professional exposure necessary for career advancement.

He commended the Institute’s Education Committee for its leadership in the initiative and acknowledged Nathan Leadgate for partnering with CIIN to advance youth development within the insurance profession.

Addressing the mentors, the CIIN President urged them to approach the assignment as an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the careers and professional lives of young participants.

He encouraged them to share their experiences, provide constructive guidance and help mentees navigate the opportunities and challenges of the industry.

He also charged the mentees to demonstrate commitment, humility and a willingness to learn, stressing that the success of mentorship depends on active participation and a readiness to take responsibility for personal and professional growth.

The President further reiterated that the future sustainability of the Nigerian insurance industry depends, in part, on its ability to attract, develop and retain talented young professionals. He noted that structured mentorship could help create pathways for young people to build rewarding careers, contribute innovative ideas and assume leadership responsibilities.

The programme is expected to facilitate meaningful mentor-mentee relationships, promote knowledge transfer, strengthen professional networks and encourage the development of future insurance leaders.

The launch also provided a platform to outline the programme’s structure and implementation framework, alongside mentor and mentee perspectives and the immediate steps towards the commencement of its activities.

CIIN Revamped Youth Mentorship Programme underscores the Institute’s continuing commitment to professional education, capacity development and the advancement of the Nigerian insurance industry through deliberate investment in human capital
