The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), through its Academy, has hosted 90 students of Durable Comprehensive High School on an educational visit to its facilities as part of activities marking World Science Day.
LAWMA’s Executive Director, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi said that the visit held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, exposed the students to practical waste management processes and the application of science, technology and innovation in promoting environmental sustainability.
He said the visit also presented an opportunity to educate the students on waste reduction, sorting, reuse, recycling and upcycling, with emphasis on responsible waste practices and the need to maximise the recovery and reuse of discarded materials.
He explained that the Street Sanitation Department of the Agency introduced the students to the various routes and operational processes involved in maintaining clean public spaces, while the Engineering Services Department provided practical demonstrations of waste management equipment, including trucks and compactors, explaining their functions in waste collection and transportation.
He emphasised that through the visit, the students were able to connect classroom learning with real-life applications, while reinforcing the importance of environmental responsibility and innovation in addressing waste management challenges.
The positive exchange underscores LAWMA’s commitment to environmental education by nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious young people who can promote responsible waste practices in their homes, schools and communities.
