The Business of Staying Relevant: How Personal Branding Creates Career Longevity

By Teddy Esosa Don-Momoh (Teddiizzle)

Life has taught me that success is rarely measured by how many times you win. It is measured by how many times life knocks you down and you still choose to rise.

For many people, my recent appointment as Head of Konga FM/TV, coupled with the birth of my beautiful daughter with my wife, Lara Kadayisi Don-Momoh, looks like a season of celebration.

It is.

But every public victory has a private story.

Years ago, I lost my first wife, Kefee “Branama Queen” Don-Momoh. It was one of the darkest seasons of my life. No promotion, award or applause could fill that void.

As a broadcaster, I still had to sit behind the microphone. I still had to smile on air, prepare programmes and connect with listeners. Few people knew that, after the red light went off in the studio, I was carrying a grief that words could barely describe.

I had two choices: allow pain to define me or allow purpose to sustain me.

I chose purpose.

For more than twenty years, broadcasting has been more than a career; it has been my calling. Through changing media landscapes, evolving technology and shifting audiences, one thing kept me relevant not luck, but consistency.

In today’s world, your greatest career asset is your personal brand.

Titles change. Companies change. Platforms change. But credibility, integrity and the value people associate with your name travel wherever you go.

Long before I became Head of Konga FM/TV, I had spent years building trust, serving audiences, mentoring young broadcasters and showing up even when life felt heavy.

That is the business of staying relevant.

Personal branding is not about popularity. It is about becoming known for excellence so that opportunities begin to look for you.

Looking back, I now understand that every challenge was preparing me for leadership.

Leadership is not built in moments of comfort. It is forged in adversity.

Today, while embracing the responsibility of leading Konga FM/TV, I have also received another priceless blessing welcoming a baby girl into our family.

Her arrival reminds me that God has a remarkable way of restoring hope. Sometimes, what feels like the end of your story is only the end of one chapter.

Many people today are carrying invisible burdens. Some have lost loved ones. Others have lost businesses, careers, relationships or dreams they worked years to build.

My message to them is simple: don’t stop building yourself because life became difficult.

Continue learning.

Continue serving.

Continue protecting your reputation.

Continue investing in your name.

Because while you are waiting for your breakthrough, your character is preparing you to sustain it.

Sometimes life delays you because it is developing you.

Sometimes your greatest promotion comes after your greatest test.

And sometimes your biggest blessings arrive together, just when you had almost stopped expecting them.

As I reflect on this new season, I do so with gratitude not because my journey has been easy, but because I refused to quit.

If my story leaves one lesson, let it be this:

Your circumstances may interrupt your journey, but they should never interrupt your purpose.

Build your name.

Protect your reputation.

Serve consistently.

Stay relevant.

Because when preparation meets God’s timing, what looks like years of waiting can become a season of double blessings.
